Hope Starting at Home: Becoming Better Dads from Reconnect and Repair

Because every child deserves to feel safe—and every father deserves the chance to do better.

Family and domestic violence continues to devastate families across Australia. Over 2.9 million children have witnessed violence in the home before age 15. For many, this trauma shapes their entire future—affecting mental health, relationships, and long-term wellbeing. But what if we could stop the cycle at its root?

At Stronger Families, we believe that change is possible when fathers are given the right support. That's why we're offering the Caring Dads program - a 17-week evidence-based group intervention designed to help fathers understand the impact of their behavior, take responsibility, and learn how to build healthier relationships with their children and families.

When Dad Hurts, Everyone Hurts

The statistics are heartbreaking:

  • 56% of homeless youth in Australia left home due to family violence

  • 7% of women hospitalized for domestic violence were pregnant

  • Family violence has lasting impacts on child development, behavior, and safety

It’s a painful truth—when violence or neglect is present in the home, children suffer the most. They carry that fear and confusion into every part of their lives: into school, into relationships, and sometimes, into their own future families.

Every child deserves to feel safe; every father deserves the chance to become better dad.
Stronger Families calls for becoming better dads

Many of these dads never learned a healthy way to express emotions. They may be carrying deep trauma of their own. But that doesn’t excuse the harm—it just shows us where the healing needs to begin.

Healing, learning accountability, and becoming better dads starts with understanding that real strength lies in compassion and change.

The Caring Dads Program

In small, supportive groups led by trained professionals, dads learn to:

  • Understand how their actions impact their children

  • Build respectful, non-violent relationships with their co-parents

  • Nurture instead of control

  • Reconnect with their role as protectors, not perpetrators

But this isn’t just about the dads. The safety of mothers and children comes first.

That’s why the program also includes:

  • Outreach and support for mothers

  • Collaboration with family support and child protection services

  • A commitment to keeping children safe at every step

Join Us in Making a Difference

Real change is possible. We’ve seen dads reconnect with children who once feared them. We’ve seen families rebuild trust. We’ve seen the cycle of violence interrupted—because one man chose to do the work.

Each step toward becoming better dads helps break the cycle—and builds a new legacy of safety and love.

If you're a father ready to make a change, or if you know someone who could benefit from this program, Stronger Families is here to help.
