Stronger Families, Safer Futures: A New Model for Domestic Violence Intervention That Works

Stronger Families, Safer Futures: A New Model for Domestic Violence Intervention That Works

At the heart of every strong community are strong families. Yet, 2.9 million Australian children have witnessed family violence before the age of 15. Behind this number are families in crisis and children at risk. At the Stronger Families Foundation, everything is done for the children; those who deserve not only to be safe, but to thrive.

Founded in 2020, Stronger Families is a young and growing not-for-profit organization dedicated to breaking the cycle of intergenerational violence.

The foundation’s cornerstone initiative, Caring Dads, is a 17-week, evidence-based parenting program developed in Canada and refined over 25 years. Successfully implemented across North America, Europe, and now Australia, the program offers a trauma-informed, child-focused pathway to help fathers rebuild trust, take accountability, and form healthier relationships with their children. It is complemented by Strengthening Families, a trauma therapy and support service for mothers and children that aligns with the father’s behavioural goals.

Why does this matter? Because research shows that children who experience or witness abuse are significantly more likely to repeat those behaviours as adults. At Stronger Families, the team works directly with fathers to stop this cycle at its source, ensuring children are protected today and empowered to lead safe, healthy lives tomorrow.

In 2024 alone, Stronger Families supported over 460 individuals, worked directly with 80 high-risk perpetrators in partnership with WA Police, and reached 20,000 people through community education campaigns. The impact is real: 97% of Caring Dads participants reported improved parenting interactions. Stories like John’s and Sarah’s show families beginning to heal, communicate, and rebuild trust.

But they cannot do it alone. As demand for their services grows, so too does the need for sustainable funding, strategic partnerships, and strong policy support. That’s why they are calling on government agencies, community leaders, funding bodies, and peer organizations to stand with them.

As a new but rapidly evolving organization, their success depends on collaboration, trust, and a shared vision for a safer society. With your support, through funding, referrals, or partnerships, they can scale their programs, reach more families, and build safer communities together.

Behavioural change is difficult to measure and even harder to fund. But the outcomes speak for themselves. Fathers become safer parents. Children gain stability. Communities heal. 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦🏡

If we truly want to protect children, we must be willing to work with those who need help the most, before it’s too late.
